I have hashimotos too! THis is sp weird...Ii did not know it was so common! I had half my thyroid out a year after ds was born. I never knew if their was a problem before hand. I am still having some thyroid issues, my level is too low on meds, they were just upped. I also have cervical facet anthropathy(SP?) which is like arthritis in the joints on back of kneck.Autoimmune disease tend to be comorbid, too. If you have one, you arem uc hmore apt to have another one!Yes...I have Hashimoto's as well. The auto immune thing is true, I have psoriasis, psoriatric arthritis and hashimoto's...at least that is what they know for now.
I have Hashimoto's. I used to be Hyperthyroid about 10 years ago, it was slowed down by drugs and I became Euthyroid for a couple of years before I became pregnant then a few weeks after giving birth, my neck became huge and thick and had trouble swallowing. Had a nuclear scan which showed hot and cold nodules indicating Graves Disease but blood work showed Hypothyroid. So this happened sometime during pregnancy and it was not detected. You would think that with my history of Hyperthyroidism, my thyroid levels would have been checked. However, I think that pregnancy hormones can sometime mask a lot of things. I carry a trait for a blood disorder, it was a strong trait before my pregnancy but disappeared while I was pregnant then the trait was strong again postpartum. Go figure.
Payne'smom posted a topic Do any of you have an autimmune disorder? on April 27, 07. Great post and responses. Autoimmune diseases run in my family, my sister died of non-hodgkins and both my parents have Rheumatoid Arthritis and I also supposedly test high for Celiac Disease, though I’m not symptomatic yet. I personally feel that repeat X-rays for an auto injury on my neck triggered my thyroid response.
Yes. Hypothyroidism runs in both my family and my husbands (but our kids are all adopted).
DH had an aunt who had this problem. She lived in institutions most of her life, once her mother passed away. She was allegedly MR, but frankly it sounded to me as if she had a great sense of humor and was not that far below typical ... but in those days (40's and 50's) things were, to say the least, handled differently.
It is like one in 8 women who have Hashimoto's thyroiditis, now. AND I work with TWO MEN who have Grave's Disease (Hyper).
The recommended age to begin annual testing on women is I believe 50. Mine was found in an infertility screen, at 37! (along with other things -- it did NOT cause my infert., tho I was FRANKLY Hypothyroid!). I think they also screen women during pregnancy, in many places.
Not sure yet if it is relevant or not, flame retardants in carpeting and upholstery are being implicated in feline hyperthyroidism (also an autoimmune disease). And it seems like Hashimoto's thyroiditis (the most common cause of hypo) is also on the increase. It will be interesting to see the research that comes out. (I used to do thyroid research!).
Is anyone in the family haveing this problem? I read this can effect babies iq if mom has this and isn't not stable while pregnant. Ladies get checked yearly if it's in either side of the famalies this is genetic. This is mainly a ladies issue but guys can have this also.Yes kids can have this also. This effects all other internal body functions as well.
Hypo=not enough thyroid
hyper=to much thyroid
